Modern Slavery ESG statement
Obsydian Group Limited Modern Slavery & Ethical Sourcing Statement
1.Our Commitment
Obsydian is committed to conducting business ethically, transparently, and responsibly. We recognise that modern slavery, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation are serious global issues that require continuous vigilance. As a sourcing and procurement company connecting clients in Africa with manufacturing partners in Asia, we are dedicated to ensuring that these practices have no place within our operations or supply chains.
2. About Obsydian
Obsydian provides end-to-end sourcing, quality management, logistics coordination, and supply chain risk solutions.
We operate across global markets supporting clients in heavy industry, mining, manufacturing, and infrastructure.
Because our business involves multi-country supply chains, we take our responsibility seriously to promote fair labour, safe working conditions, and respect for human rights throughout every stage of our operations.
3. Our Approach to Modern Slavery
Obsydian does not tolerate any form of forced, bonded, or child labour. We believe that ethical procurement is fundamental to sustainable business.
To uphold this principle, we integrate social responsibility into our sourcing decisions and work closely with trusted suppliers that demonstrate integrity and transparency in their operations.
Our approach includes:
- Conducting supplier due diligence before engagement, considering labour conditions and ethical practices
- Including ethical compliance expectations in supplier communication and onboarding
- Performing factory inspections and, where appropriate, CSR or modern slavery audit checks through our in-country engineers and quality teams
- Investigating any reported concerns or non-compliance issues and taking corrective action where necessary
4. Our Standards and Frameworks
While Obsydian is not formally affiliated with any auditing organisations, our principles are guided by internationally recognised frameworks, including:
- The United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs)
- The International Labour Organization (ILO) Core Conventions
- Best-practice criteria reflected in SA8000, SMETA, and BSCI social accountability standards
These frameworks influence how we evaluate suppliers, assess risk, and encourage continuous improvement within our network.
5. Training and Awareness
We recognise that awareness is critical to preventing modern slavery. Our team receives internal briefings to understand ethical sourcing risks, identify potential warning signs, and reinforce our zero-tolerance policy toward exploitation.
We also encourage our suppliers and clients to share our commitment by promoting transparency and accountability across the value chain.
6. Continuous Improvement
We view responsible sourcing as a process of ongoing improvement. Obsydian continues to:
- Increase visibility within our supply base
- Expand due-diligence procedures as our network grows
- Partner with clients and suppliers to implement stronger labour and compliance practices
Through these efforts, we aim to contribute to global efforts to eliminate modern slavery and build more resilient, fair, and sustainable supply chains.
7. Approval and Review
This statement has been approved by the Directors of Obsydian Group Limited and reflects the collective commitment of all Obsydian entities.
